Opol Vertical Challenge

Endurance, strategy and teamwork. Form your pair, climb the marked routes, collect coloured wristbands and fight for a place in the Grand Final.

How it works

  1. Form your team of two and collect your registration pack.

  2. Look for routes marked with coloured tape on the first bolt.

  3. Reach the anchor and immediately wear the coloured wristband.

  4. Keep climbing until 16:00 and discover your score when the secret envelope is opened.

Official rules

The Opol Vertical Challenge combines climbing, strategy and teamwork. Choose your routes carefully, keep your wristbands visible and make every move count.

Teams of two

The competition is exclusively for teams of two. Every climber receives a personal registration pack.

The participation fee is €20 per person when registering and paying online, for a total of €40 per team. When registering and paying on site, the fee is €22.50 per person, for a total of €45 per team. By registering online, each team saves €5. Teams cannot be changed once the competition has started.

Marked routes

Only routes marked with coloured tape on the first bolt are valid for the Opol Vertical Challenge.

Routes without tape are outside the competition and remain available for normal climbing.

Wristbands

When a team completes a marked route, leading or following, and reaches the anchor, it earns one wristband for that route. A team may collect no more than one wristband per route.

Wear the wristband immediately. The route name is written on its back, and duplicate wristbands from the same route result in immediate disqualification.

Removing, hiding, stealing or exchanging wristbands is forbidden. Any unfair behaviour results in immediate disqualification.

Secret scores

Wristbands are orange, purple and green. Their point values remain unknown throughout qualification.

At 16:30 the sealed envelope is opened live and the points are revealed.

Schedule

  1. Competition starts.

  2. Deadline for returning to Festival HQ.

  3. Beer, music and score verification.

  4. Opening of the secret envelope and announcement of the finalists.

Speed on the paths is not rewarded: what counts is the strategy behind the routes you climb and the wristbands you earn.

Golden Wristband

Somewhere in the valley there is one unique Golden Wristband. Only the first team to reach that anchor will find it.

It comes with a big bonus. Will it be enough to secure a place in the Grand Final?

Grand Final

The best five teams qualify. If teams are tied, the judges decide the final places with a flash challenge.

Saturday's final will take place on a boulder wall built and set specifically for the occasion. Once the Grand Final is over, the wall will be open to everyone for free climbing and trying out climbing shoes.

Lottery

Teams that do not qualify still take part in the lottery. Every wristband collected becomes one lottery ticket: the more routes you climb, the more chances you have to win.

Safety

Safety comes first. Respect climbing ethics, other climbers and Festival volunteers. Climb and belay using correct procedures at all times; no wristband is worth a dangerous manoeuvre.
